“Local Plan” Development

At a members’ meeting at the W.I.Hall the team of directors explained what they had been busy with, which included enrolling in national organisations Locality and Prince’s Regeneration Trust who can provide expert advice and backing.  A current high priority is to challenge the upcoming new edition of the “Local Plan”, which sets the development guidelines for West Dorset until 2028; this currently contains a statement that St Michael’s should receive 93 residential units, clearly not what the people of Bridport expect at all. This same draft plan has introduced the idea of 760 homes on the green fields of Vearse Farm on the edge of town, which is also meeting widespread opposition.

Our guest speaker was Bob Gillis of Bridport Town Council, who talked us through how the forthcoming Neighbourhood Plan for Bridport will work, and urged us to get involved as it’s a genuine opportunity to get community input into local affairs.
